Practical Life activities help the child to develop good muscular coordination, concentration, and physical independence. The exercises provide inviting opportunities for movement that assist in the control and refinement of both gross and fine motor skills, teach sequencing and logic, practical skill, and help to build self esteem.
Sensorial Development is one of Maria Montessori's greatest gifts to early education. Her scientifically designed materials help the child to form clear concepts and thereby help build the foundation for intellectual development. Sensorial refinement developed during these early years is permanent.
Language Development begins with the presentation and classification of the vocabulary within the child's own surroundings. Phonics is used to teach the basic language skills. Montessori preschool graduates are able to read and write with confidence before entering elementary school.
Early Preparation of the Mathematical Mind is achieved through use of manipulative materials which present abstract concepts in concrete form. While gaining mastery of math operations, they are laying a foundation for higher math in later years. Children learn at different rates and need a varying amount of practice with concrete material before they are ready for abstract concepts. The individualized Montessori math lessons are freely and enthusiastically chosen by the children.
Music Education is a daily activity enjoyed by the children. They start by listening to the pure tones of the famous Montessori bells. Later they learn to match tones and play simple melodies. The children enjoy singing daily and have the opportunity to play rhythm instruments regularly. Day by day, they build a strong foundation for further music education and enjoyment.
Social Science includes a number of cultural subjects, such as science, geography, history, art, and foreign languages both as individual activities and as group lessons.
Spirituality is a natural part of the Montessori environment. This includes nurturing sensitivity for living things-plants, animals, and for each other. Children cultivate awe and wonder, respect for nature, caring for the earth, understanding and accepting others and fostering virtues such as love, peacefulness, kindness and compassion.
